SB 218 Summary

• Amends Oklahoma law to clarify that uninsured motorist coverage is not required on motor vehicles owned by or available for regular use by the named insured, resident spouse, or resident relatives if those vehicles lack motor vehicle insurance altogether.

• Modifies Section 3636 of Title 36 of Oklahoma Statutes to specify that such uninsured vehicles do not need uninsured motorist coverage themselves.

• Maintains existing requirements for standard motor vehicle policies to include uninsured motorist coverage at minimum levels of $25,000 per person/$50,000 per occurrence.

• Preserves policyholder rights to reject uninsured motorist coverage through written form, with such rejection remaining valid for renewals and amendments.

• Takes effect November 1, 2011.
