SB 241 Summary

• Amends 69 O.S. 2001, Section 662 regarding the County Bridge and Road Improvement Act to modify payment procedures for county-built bridge and road projects.

• Changes terminology from "reimbursable" to "payable" for costs associated with county-built projects constructed with county forces or let to contract.

• Establishes five specific criteria that county-built bridges must meet to be eligible for payment from the County Bridge and Road Improvement Fund: meeting current County Bridge Standards with H-23 ton minimum load rating, minimum 24-foot roadway width, approved subsurface foundation, materials meeting specifications, and engineer approval.

• Requires bridges 20 feet or longer to achieve 23-ton load rating as determined by National Bridge Inventory standards and approved by the Department of Transportation.

• Allows counties to request construction supervision from their Circuit Engineering District prior to bridge construction to ensure quality control and assurance.
