State Board of Education reduced from current structure to consist of seven members: the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (who serves as chairperson) and six appointed members by the Governor with Senate consent.

Governor appoints one member from each congressional district and one at-large member, with each appointment effective April 2 and terms lasting four years, serving at the pleasure of the Governor.

All current appointed board positions deemed vacant upon the effective date, with the Governor required to make initial appointments within 30 days; these initial appointments have terms ending April 2, 2015.

Board members must have a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency and complete new board member workshop requirements within 13 months of appointment, with no fees charged by the State Department of Education.

Vacancies filled by the Governor subject to Senate confirmation for the unexpired term; board members receive necessary travel expenses in accordance with state travel reimbursement law.
