SB 483 Summary

• Directs the Department of Human Services to utilize private service providers whenever feasible to increase efficiency and minimize administrative costs across the agency.

• Requires the Department to seek federal approval necessary to involve private service providers in administering services within three divisions: Aging Services, Children and Family Services, and Developmental Disabilities Services.

• Mandates the Department report to legislative leaders on private service provider utilization upon effective date, then quarterly thereafter on changes to contracts and number of private providers.

• Requires the Department to submit a written plan to the President Pro Tempore and Speaker by January 1, 2012, detailing efforts to increase private service provider utilization, with annual progress reports thereafter.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2011.
