SB 511 Summary

• Prohibits County Clerks and County Assessors from publishing home addresses of law enforcement officials and their staff/personnel online upon receipt of a certified letter from the agency on official letterhead.

• Letter of exemption request must include the official's home address, statement of exemption claimed, and (except for judges) certification from the agency director that the individual is an employee.

• Any person, business, or government entity receiving a removal request must delete the address or phone number from public internet display within 48 hours and prevent reposting on all related websites.

• Law enforcement officials whose addresses are disclosed in violation of these requirements may pursue injunctive or declarative relief, recover court costs and attorney fees, and the court may impose a fine up to $1,000 for violation of its order.

• Chief judges of district courts maintain lists of claimed exemptions; actual courthouse and assessor office documents remain unaffected by the law.
