SB 671 Summary

• Abolishes the Board of Medicolegal Investigations and creates the Board of State Pathology with 8 members including the Director of the Forensic Science Institute at UCO and the OSBI Forensic Laboratory Director.

• Renames the "Office of the Chief Medical Examiner" to the "Office of State Pathology" and creates the position of "State Pathologist" to replace the "Chief Medical Examiner" throughout Title 63.

• Establishes an Executive Director position for the Office of State Pathology, appointed by the Board, to handle administrative and personnel matters while the State Pathologist leads all medical and medicolegal investigative activities.

• Authorizes relocation of the Office of State Pathology to a location adjacent to or near the University of Central Oklahoma Forensic Science Institute and permits lease-purchase agreements for this purpose.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2011 with an emergency clause for immediate effect.
