SB 683 Summary

• Allows Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to adopt a policy permitting students who graduated from Oklahoma high schools and resided in Oklahoma with a parent/guardian for at least 2 years prior to graduation to be eligible for resident tuition.

• Removes previous immigration documentation requirements, including requirements for applicants to provide evidence of U.S. citizenship or valid immigration status, and eliminates requirements to file legalization applications or affidavits.

• Clarifies that individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States are not eligible for resident tuition or postsecondary education benefits based on residence, unless they were already enrolled and receiving resident tuition benefits during the 2006-2007 school year or earlier.

• Repeals Section 3242.1 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes (from 2004).

• Effective date: November 1, 2011.
