Summary of SB820

• Establishes procedures for deportation of prisoners in Department of Corrections custody who are subject to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services deportation orders.

• Requires identification and reporting of relatives (within third degree of affinity or consanguinity) of deportable prisoners who are receiving state assistance and have illegal immigration status.

• Mandates state agencies providing assistance to develop procedures for identifying relatives meeting these criteria and forward findings to law enforcement to coordinate with federal authorities for citizenship determination.

• Requires information collected to be forwarded to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to process deportation orders for qualifying relatives.

• Effective date: November 1, 2011.
