HB 1058 Summary

• Amends 26 O.S. 2001, Section 1-108 to modify the requirements for forming a recognized political party in Oklahoma.

• Reduces the signature requirement for political party formation from 5% of votes cast in the last General Election to a minimum of 22,500 registered voter signatures.

• Maintains existing restrictions on petition circulation timing (maximum 1 year after notice filing, cannot be circulated May 1-November 15 of even-numbered years) and filing deadline of May 1 of an even-numbered year.

• Requires State Election Board to verify petition sufficiency within 30 days of receipt; approved parties gain recognition and all associated rights and obligations.

• Effective date: November 1, 2011.
