HB 2193 Summary

• Prohibits any person, property owner, tenant, employer, or business from maintaining policies that prevent individuals (except convicted felons) from transporting and storing firearms or ammunition in locked motor vehicles on property.

• Provides immunity from civil liability for property owners and employers for incidents resulting from stored firearms or ammunition in locked vehicles, except in cases involving criminal acts with those firearms.

• Allows individuals to bring civil actions for violations of this section, with prevailing plaintiffs entitled to actual damages, injunctive relief, and court costs plus attorney fees.

• Defines "motor vehicle" as any automobile, truck, minivan, SUV, motorcycle, motor scooter, or other vehicle required to be registered under Oklahoma's Vehicle License and Registration Act.

• Effective date: November 1, 2012.
