HB2337 Summary

• Amends 74 O.S. 2011, Section 324.11a to require certain building owners to install smoke detectors in residential rental properties in accordance with State Fire Marshal Commission standards.

• Beginning January 1, 2013, landlords and property owners of residential rental properties must install hard-wired smoke detectors with battery backup throughout their properties.

• Defines "hard-wired smoke detector" as a detector wired into the electrical system of the property with battery backup capability.

• Maintains existing tenant responsibility for testing smoke detectors in one- or two-family dwellings and apartments; landlords must explain testing methods to tenants.

• Effective date: November 1, 2012.
