HB 2806 Summary

• Establishes authorized election dates for tax levy elections in counties, cities, towns, and school districts; elections limited to General Elections, Primary Elections, or school board elections unless a petition process is initiated.

• Allows a special election date if at least 10% of registered voters from the last election sign a petition requesting an alternative date for the tax levy question.

• Requires petitions to display a conspicuous statement (15+ point font, bold or italic) comparing the cost estimates of holding the election on an authorized date versus the special election date, with cost estimates provided by the county election board.

• Prohibits use of public money or resources (including employee time during work hours) to prepare, circulate, promote, or assist with the petition process.

• Effective date: November 1, 2012.
