HB 2959 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 99 to include "tribal law enforcement officer" in the definition of "peace officer"

• Modifies 21 O.S. 2011, Section 99a to establish state police powers for tribal law enforcement officers commissioned through cross-deputization agreements with federally recognized Indian tribes

• Tribal law enforcement officers must be certified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training to exercise state police powers limited to tribal Indian land

• Tribal officers may enforce state laws and municipal ordinances against non-Indian citizens on tribal Indian land under the cross-deputization framework authorized by Section 1221 of Title 74

• Effective date: November 1, 2012
