HB 3030 Summary

• Adds one additional mathematics unit requirement for high school graduation, effective for students entering 9th grade in 2012-13 school year, beyond the existing three mathematics units already required.

• Allows successful completion of two credits of career technology education courses in which mathematics skills are applied to substitute for the one additional mathematics course requirement.

• Permits implementation delay until funding becomes available; State Board of Education must determine funding availability by January 1, 2015, and annually thereafter until funds are available.

• Specifies eligible mathematics courses including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, and any other mathematics course with equivalent or greater rigor above Algebra I.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2012.
