• Requires physical education teachers in public schools to complete an approved teacher education program and obtain licensure or certification in physical education beginning with the 2013-2014 school year.

• Mandates elementary schools provide minimum 60 minutes per week of physical education or exercise programs for full-day kindergarten through grade 5 students, separate from recess time.

• Requires schools to provide an additional 60 minutes per week of physical activity through combinations of physical education, exercise programs, fitness breaks, recess, and wellness education.

• Establishes that physical education curriculum must be sequential and developmentally appropriate, with at least 50% of class time dedicated to actual student physical activity at moderate to vigorous intensity levels.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2012.
