SB1142 Summary

• Authorizes the Department of Public Safety to enter agreements with persons whose driver licenses are suspended or revoked to issue provisional licenses for limited driving purposes (to/from residence, employment, college, or court-ordered treatment).

• Requires holders of provisional licenses to pay a minimum of $25 per month toward outstanding driver license reinstatement fees as a condition of the agreement.

• Department must develop rules and procedures for the provisional driver license program, including eligibility criteria, proof of insurance, proof of enrollment or employment, and provisional license fees.

• Revocation of a provisional license is automatic if the holder commits any violation of law that would result in suspension or revocation of a regular driver license; person becomes permanently ineligible for future provisional license applications.

• Effective November 1, 2012.
