Bill Summary: SB1185

• Establishes the School Administrator Professional Development Pilot Program administered by the State Board of Education, subject to available funding.

• Requires school principals in their second through fifth year to complete 10 hours of content-specific professional development academy focused on leadership and organizational skills.

• Mandates principals of schools failing to achieve adequate yearly progress (AYP) to complete 6 hours of professional development following the year they missed AYP targets.

• Requires the State Department of Education to develop a list of approved professional development providers based on proven capacity to deliver research-based instruction and to pay all reasonable costs for participation including tuition, fees, mileage, and lodging.

• Effective July 1, 2012, with emergency clause for immediate implementation.
