District attorneys may appoint full-time state agency attorneys as special assistant district attorneys on a case-by-case basis when their expertise would assist the district attorney.

The Attorney General may appoint full-time state agency attorneys as special assistant attorneys general on a case-by-case basis in cases where the state is a party and the agency attorney's expertise would be helpful.

Both appointments require approval from the executive director or governing board chair of the respective state agency.

The bill creates two new statutory provisions: Section 215.16A of Title 19 (for district attorney appointments) and Section 28c.1 of Title 74 (for Attorney General appointments).

An emergency clause makes the law effective immediately upon passage and approval.
