SB1295 Summary

• Removes the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners' authority over the Commercial Pet Breeders Act and makes the Board of Commercial Pet Breeders an independent agency.

• Requires the Board of Commercial Pet Breeders to establish a law enforcement division responsible for investigating suspected breeders, reviewing license applications, and enforcing the Act.

• Changes license expiration date from the first anniversary of issuance to October 3rd of each year.

• Expands criminal penalties and enforcement authority by allowing Board to seize animals, obtain injunctions, and impose civil monetary penalties for violations, and increases fines for certain offenses.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2012.
