SB 1553 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 99a to authorize peace officers to enforce Oklahoma criminal laws statewide under specified circumstances including emergencies, with agency consent, or while transporting prisoners.

• Grants peace officers the same powers and duties as the employing agency while rendering assistance, but clarifies that non-employing agencies are not responsible for salaries, insurance, or benefits.

• Requires municipal peace officers to exercise statewide authority only pursuant to policies and procedures adopted by their municipal governing body.

• Grants CLEET-certified peace officers from federally recognized tribes the authority to enforce state and municipal laws on non-tribal members while on tribal land.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2012.
