SB1556 Summary

• Amends the Oklahoma Firearms Act by deleting reciprocal recognition of concealed carry permits from other states.

• Eliminates the previous exception allowing out-of-state permit holders to carry concealed firearms in Oklahoma; now requires all persons to obtain an Oklahoma concealed handgun license under the Self Defense Act.

• Requires persons with valid out-of-state firearm licenses to obtain an Oklahoma concealed handgun license in order to legally carry a concealed handgun in the state.

• Creates a penalty of $50-$500 fine and/or 10 days to 6 months in county jail for violating the new requirement.

• Effective date: November 1, 2012.
