Senate Bill 1872 Summary

• Creates the "Professional Bounty Hunter Licensing Act" establishing state regulation and licensure requirements for bounty hunters in Oklahoma.

• Requires all bounty hunters to be CLEET-certified with a minimum of five (5) years of law enforcement experience or equivalent training recognized by CLEET.

• Sets annual and renewal license fees at $250.00 payable to CLEET by the applicant's birth month each year.

• Prohibits certain persons from becoming licensed bounty hunters, including those convicted of felonies, law enforcement officers, judges, jailers, bail bondsmen (with exception), and persons involved in alcohol beverage sales or operations.

• Limits bounty hunter activities to apprehension of felony fugitives, escapees, capital crime suspects, persons who absconded on bail bonds (180+ days), and other specified felony-related circumstances; becomes effective November 1, 2012.
