SB1908 Summary

• Requires all appropriated state agencies with a Director or primary executive position not currently appointed by the Governor or elected statewide to have that position appointed by the Governor with Senate confirmation, serving at the Governor's pleasure.

• Modifies appointment authority for executive directors of multiple agencies including Office of Juvenile Affairs, Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Department of Human Services, Department of Corrections, Department of Health, Department of Transportation, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Department of Rehabilitation Services.

• Changes these directors from being appointed by boards or commissions to being appointed directly by the Governor with Senate consent, while boards retain other oversight functions like policy and budget approval.

• Effective date: November 1, 2012.
