SB 1942 Summary

• Modifies Section 1-738.3d of Oklahoma law regarding ultrasounds before abortion procedures, changing requirements for who may perform ultrasounds.

• Allows either a physician or a certified technician (working in conjunction with a physician) to perform the required ultrasound, replacing previous language requiring only the physician performing the abortion.

• Requires a copy of the written certification documenting ultrasound compliance be provided to the abortion provider and retained in the patient's medical file for at least 7 years (or 5 years after a minor reaches age 18, whichever is longer).

• Requires ultrasound images be retained by the physician or certified technician who performed the ultrasound for at least 10 years.

• Effective date: November 1, 2012.
