Senate Bill 1947 Summary

• Modifies Section 1290.8 of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act to change the requirement that concealed handgun licensees notify law enforcement officers of their weapon possession from "upon first contact" to only "when asked" by an officer during arrest, detainment, or traffic stop.

• Eliminates the six-month license suspension and $50 administrative fine previously imposed for failure to notify law enforcement of handgun possession; replaces with a fine not exceeding $100.

• Amends Section 1290.26 to recognize out-of-state concealed carry permits and changes the disclosure requirement for out-of-state licensees from "upon coming in contact with" peace officers to only "when asked" if carrying a concealed handgun.

• Effective date of November 1, 2012.
