SB 201 Summary

• Authorizes municipalities and counties to place holds on motor vehicle registration renewals for outstanding traffic violation fines, penalties, and related debts owed to that jurisdiction.

• Allows motor license agents to accept payment of delinquent traffic fines and debts at the time of vehicle registration renewal, charging a $25 fee per vehicle for this service.

• Grants the Department of Public Safety authority to work with motor license agents to enforce collection of traffic violation debts through vehicle registration holds.

• Amends Oklahoma Vehicle License and Registration Act procedures to specify that holds on registration remain until all outstanding or delinquent fines, assessments, or debts from traffic convictions are paid.

• Effective date: January 1, 2012.
