Senate Resolution 39 Summary

• Recognizes David Amram as the 2011 recipient of the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame's Jay McShann Lifetime Achievement Award for his career as a composer, conductor, writer, musician and teacher.

• Acknowledges Amram's major accomplishments including composing over 100 orchestral and chamber music works, writing Broadway and film scores including "Splendor in the Grass" and "The Manchurian Candidate," and creating two operas.

• Honors Amram's collaborations with iconic musicians including Leonard Bernstein, Dizzy Gillespie, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Miles Davis, and numerous Oklahoma-based jazz and blues artists.

• Recognizes Amram's contributions to Oklahoma's cultural life through performances at the Woody Guthrie Free Festival and his composition "Symphonic Variations on a Song" based on Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land."

• Designates David Amram as an honorary Oklahoman with all rights and privileges thereof, adopted by the Senate on March 7, 2012.
