HB 1118 Summary - Oklahoma Truth in Adoption Act

• Creates the Oklahoma Truth in Adoption Act to amend confidentiality provisions in vital records law regarding adopted persons born in Oklahoma.

• Effective July 1, 2014, allows adult adopted persons and descendants of adopted persons to request noncertified copies of their unaltered original birth certificates from the Registrar of Vital Statistics.

• Effective January 1, 2014, permits biological parents identified on original birth certificates to file contact preference forms indicating whether they wish to be contacted, prefer contact only through an intermediary, or prefer not to be contacted.

• Requires the Registrar to attach biological parents' contact preference forms and updated medical/social history information to original birth certificates provided to adopted persons.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2013.
