HB 1293 Summary

• Amends the Oklahoma Community Sentencing Act (22 O.S. 2011, Section 988.8) to allow courts to stay or restore driving privileges for offenders in community punishment programs when no other transportation is available.

• Requires offenders to provide proof of insurance before a court can order the Department of Public Safety to stay or restore Class D driving privileges.

• Permits courts to restore driving privileges upon successful completion of community sentencing, except for additional drug or alcohol-related offenses; offender must pay all reinstatement fees and meet DPS requirements.

• Requires electronic notification from court clerks to the Department of Public Safety when an offender successfully completes a community sentencing program.

• Directs the Department of Public Safety to promulgate rules to implement the provisions and becomes effective November 1, 2013.
