HB 1496 Summary

• Increases the maximum lawful speed limit on turnpikes from 75 miles per hour to 80 miles per hour

• Maintains existing speed limits for other road types including 70 mph for four-lane divided highways and interstate highways, and 65 mph for other locations

• Preserves existing speed limit restrictions for school buses (55 mph on two-lane highways, 65 mph on divided highways and turnpikes) and school zones (25 mph)

• Retains the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority's authority to prescribe specific maximum and minimum speeds for different vehicle types on turnpikes

• Becomes effective November 1, 2013
