HB 1528 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. 2011, Section 6-101.23 to limit teachers hired on temporary contracts to a maximum of four semesters, either on a single contract or multiple contracts combined.

• Provides exceptions allowing temporary contracts exceeding four semesters for teachers replacing teachers on approved leave of absence or retired members of the Teachers' Retirement System of Oklahoma.

• Grants one year of service credit toward career status to any teacher who completes a full school year under a temporary contract.

• Requires school districts to provide written disclosure of temporary contract terms and conditions at the time a position is offered; failure to disclose converts the position to a continuing contract.

• Prohibits reemployment on temporary contracts for teachers already employed on continuing contract basis and becomes effective July 1, 2013, with emergency provisions for immediate implementation.
