HB 1550 Summary

• Expands service of process authority beyond sheriffs to include local law enforcement agencies operating within their jurisdiction

• Modifies court fees for civil and criminal cases so that service of process fees are paid directly to the performing law enforcement agency (sheriff or local police) rather than entirely to the sheriff's Service Fee Account

• Allows county sheriffs and local law enforcement agencies to enter private contracts for misdemeanor warrant notification programs, administered by statewide associations (Oklahoma Sheriffs' Association for sheriffs; Oklahoma Chiefs of Police Association for local agencies)

• Adjusts specific fee distributions in civil cases (28 O.S. §152.1) and criminal cases (28 O.S. §153) so fees paid for service within a local law enforcement agency's jurisdiction go directly to that agency

• Becomes effective November 1, 2013
