HB 1676 Summary

• Amends the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act (59 O.S. 2011, Section 567.3a) to modify the definition and scope of practice for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).

• Changes CRNA anesthesia administration requirement from "under the supervision of" to "in collaboration with" a licensed medical doctor, osteopathic physician, podiatric physician, or dentist.

• Modifies the requirement for timely on-site physician consultation to instead require compliance with "health-care-facility-approved clinical privileges or health-care-facility-approved policy."

• Maintains CRNA authority to order, select, obtain, and administer anesthesia-related drugs and controlled substances within the perioperative period, subject to continuing education and Board authorization requirements.

• Effective date: November 1, 2013.
