HB 1702 Summary

• Re-creates the State Board of Cosmetology under the Oklahoma Sunset Law, extending the board's termination date from July 1, 2013 to July 1, 2017.

• Board composition remains nine (9) members appointed by the Governor: six practicing cosmetologists with at least 5 years' experience, one lay person, one private cosmetology school administrator, and one public school cosmetology administrator.

• Board members must be Oklahoma citizens at least 25 years old and high school graduates; practicing cosmetologist members must maintain active engagement in the profession during their service.

• Establishes four-year terms ending June 30, with members serving until successors are appointed and qualified; five members constitute a quorum for conducting business.

• Board meets on the second Monday of January, March, May, July, September, and November, and at other times as deemed necessary.
