HB 1786 Summary

• Amends the Funeral Services Licensing Act (59 O.S. 2011) to require that a "funeral director in charge" must hold both a current funeral director license and an embalmer license.

• Allows individuals grandfathered in (those serving as funeral director in charge before the effective date) to continue in their role at funeral service establishments and crematories, but requires dual licensing for commercial embalming establishments.

• Expands the Oklahoma Funeral Board's powers to include issuing subpoenas as part of investigations and updating continuing education rule reference to Section 396.5b.

• Modifies discipline grounds under the licensing act to include intentional interference with Board investigations, failure to allow record access, and failure to discharge financial obligations.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2013.
