HB 2230 Summary

• Amends the Oklahoma Bridge to Literacy Program (70 O.S. Supp. 2012, Section 1210.516) to expand eligible entities that can apply for program funding.

• Adds nonprofit tuition-free elementary schools established to serve homeless children as a new category of eligible applicants, in addition to existing eligible entities (nonprofits, community-based programs, and religious organizations).

• Maintains program purpose of improving reading skills for children up through fourth grade through before-school, after-school, Saturday, and summer instruction programs.

• Effective date set for July 1, 2013, with emergency declaration for immediate implementation.
