H.R. 1027 - Lupus Awareness Resolution

• Designates May 16, 2013 as Lupus Advocacy Day and May 2013 as Lupus Awareness Month in Oklahoma to support the estimated 50,000 Oklahomans living with Lupus.

• Acknowledges that Lupus is an acute and chronic autoimmune disease affecting multiple organ systems that causes more female deaths annually than breast cancer.

• Notes that African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, and Asian Americans are two to three times more likely to develop Lupus compared to other populations.

• Recognizes the Lupus Foundation of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Oklahoma City as state and national leaders in Lupus awareness, education, research, and treatment.

• Directs distribution of the resolution to the Oklahoma Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America.
