Vehicles sold at salvage pools, auctions, to dealers, dismantlers, junkyards, scrap metal dealers, or car crushers must present a vehicle title recognized by the Oklahoma Tax Commission or ownership records approved by the Used Motor Vehicle Parts Commission

Sellers must present photo identification (valid state-issued driver license or state-issued ID card) along with title or ownership records before any sale can occur

A vehicle identification number inspection comparing the VIN on the vehicle to the title/ownership record must be conducted at the place of business before any sale, dismantling, crushing, or other disposition

If the VIN does not match records or the seller fails to present both title/ownership records and photo ID, law enforcement must be contacted and will retain the vehicle until verifying it is not stolen

Violation of these requirements constitutes a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of at least $100; effective date is November 1, 2013
