SB 170 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. 2011, Section 6-189.1 to expand teacher certification requirements for elementary grades

• Beginning July 1, 2013, allows teachers with secondary-level certification in any subject area to teach grades five and six in that same subject area

• Previously teachers with secondary certification could only teach grade five in their certified subject; this expands eligibility to include grade six

• Act takes effect July 1, 2013 with an emergency declaration for immediate implementation
