SB 171 Summary

• Replaces the State Superintendent of Public Instruction as an ex officio voting member with two appointed members from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, selected by the Governor

• Maintains two appointed members from the State Board of Education and five appointed members from business/industry, plus one public interest representative, all selected by the Governor with Senate approval

• Changes the Board Chair from the State Superintendent to a position annually elected by Board membership, with ineligibility for State Board of Education or State Regents members to serve as Chair

• Adds provision that tie votes on Board measures result in failure of the measure

• Effective July 1, 2013, with emergency clause for immediate enactment
