SB 216 Summary

• Requires persons who assist, accompany, transport, guide, or aid others in taking wildlife for compensation to obtain a hunting guide license from the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

• Sets annual license fees at $100 for residents and $300 for nonresidents.

• Exempts landowners, agricultural lessees operating on their own property, those guiding on licensed upland hunting areas or big game hunting areas, and persons involved in sanctioned hunting dog trials or performance tests.

• Prohibits guiding on lakes or lands owned or managed by the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

• Establishes penalties of up to $1,000 fine and/or up to six months in county jail for violations; became effective November 1, 2013.
