SB 229 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. 2011, Section 3-132 to allow the governing body of a city with more than 300,000 population to sponsor charter schools, but only when located in school districts with 5,000+ average daily membership within city boundaries

• Modifies the definition of "charter school" to include entities established by contract with a city's governing body as a potential sponsor

• Applies the same administrative, fiscal, and oversight responsibilities to city-sponsored charter schools as other non-school district sponsors, with 5% maximum administrative fee allowable on state aid

• Effective date: July 1, 2013, with emergency clause declared for immediate implementation
