SB 230 Summary

• Eliminates the requirement that school boards must only suspend, demote, terminate, or nonreemploy support employees "for cause" as defined by district policy.

• Repeals sections of law that defined causes of action for suspension, demotion, termination or nonreemployment of support personnel and provided rights to hearings.

• Removes protections requiring school districts to provide written notice of employment intent to support employees by June 1 or within ten days of education appropriation bill effectiveness.

• Maintains the definition of "support employee" as full-time employees working at least 172 days who perform non-professional services necessary for school district operations.

• Takes effect July 1, 2013, with emergency clause for immediate implementation.
