SB 258 Summary

• Amends 63 O.S. 2011, Section 681 to require schools, administration buildings, and institutions of higher learning to maintain written plans and procedures for protecting occupants from natural and man-made disasters and emergencies.

• Plans must be reviewed and updated annually and submitted to local emergency response organizations (including police, fire, emergency medical services, sheriff, and emergency management) in an acceptable format by November 1 of each year.

• Requires each school district and institution of higher learning to submit annual reports to the local school board or Board of Regents detailing emergency preparedness status and identified safety needs.

• Effective date: July 1, 2013.

• Declared an emergency to take effect immediately upon passage and approval.
