SB 263 Summary

• Amends 74 O.S. 2011, Section 150.23 to allow law enforcement officers, investigators, and agents to retain their service sidearms and badges upon retirement.

• Officers retiring by length of service are automatically entitled to keep their sidearm and badge; those retiring due to disability may receive them with written approval from their agency director.

• Expands eligibility to include personnel from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, Department of Wildlife Conservation, Horse Racing Commission, State Fire Marshal's Office, Tourism and Recreation Department, Inspector General, Child Support Services, University of Oklahoma police departments, and district attorney offices.

• Allows the sidearm and badge of a deceased officer to be awarded to their spouse or next of kin at the discretion of the applicable agency director.

• Effective date: November 1, 2013.
