SB 408 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. Section 3311.4 regarding continuing law enforcement training requirements for active full-time peace officers certified by CLEET, maintaining the minimum requirement of 25 hours annually including 2 hours on mental health issues.

• Exempts inactive full-time peace officers from training requirements during inactive status but requires compliance with annual training upon return to active status.

• Requires officers inactive for 5 or more years to complete 100 hours of refresher training including 4 hours of mental health education within one year of reemployment; certified reserve officers must complete a legal update.

• Grants the Director of CLEET authority to waive these requirements based on review of all employment and training records.

• Authorizes the Attorney General and assistant attorneys general to carry firearms for personal protection after completing an approved firearm training course meeting CLEET's minimum firearms standards.

• Effective date: November 1, 2013.
