SB 421 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. 2011, Section 11-103.6 regarding high school graduation curricular requirements in Oklahoma public schools.

• Allows students in foster care, in the custody of the Department of Human Services or Office of Juvenile Affairs to graduate with a standard diploma by meeting core curriculum requirements under subsection D and testing requirements rather than college preparatory/work ready curriculum.

• Maintains existing graduation requirements for other students, including core curriculum units in language arts (4 units), mathematics (3 units), science (3 units), social studies (3 units), and arts (2 units).

• Takes effect July 1, 2013 with an emergency declaration for immediate implementation.
