SB 455 Summary

• Amends 38 O.S. 2011, Section 20.1 regarding the oath or affirmation taken by general jury panel members upon reporting for duty.

• Replaces the phrase "am not mentally retarded" with "do not otherwise have a mental condition which makes me incapable of performing jury service" in the jury oath.

• Adds new language requiring jurors to state "under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Oklahoma that the foregoing is true and correct" to the oath.

• Allows jury oaths to be taken and signed using electronic methods provided by the court, either through the court's website or otherwise, and permits the court clerk to maintain oaths in electronic format.

• Removes requirement that the court clerk signature appear on the oath document itself.

• Effective date: November 1, 2013.
