SB488 Summary: Inmate Farm Worker Act

• Authorizes the Department of Corrections to develop an inmate farm worker program providing inmate labor to Oklahoma farms and ranches for farm-related work.

• Requires the program to establish minimum standards including inmate qualifications, wage provisions, participant farm/ranch qualifications, and other necessary provisions.

• Exempts the inmate farm worker program from laws prohibiting the use of inmate labor for the benefit of private persons.

• Amends Section 222 of Title 57 to clarify that inmate labor for public purposes (including farm labor) on private property is permitted.

• Takes effect November 1, 2013.
