SB 524 Bill Summary

• Grants full-time state employees and certain limited-term employees a tiered pay raise effective July 1, 2013: 5% increase for those earning under $40,000 annually and 2% for those earning $40,000 or more.

• Applies pay increases to county health department employees, conservation district employees, and George Nigh Rehabilitation Institute employees.

• Excludes elected officials, cabinet secretaries, judges, district attorneys, higher education institution employees (except George Nigh Rehabilitation Institute), and employees in certain salary schedules from receiving pay increases.

• Provides that employees on leave without pay status receive the increase upon return to work, and employees reinstated within 30 days of separation receive the increase upon reinstatement.

• Prohibits use of appropriated funds to increase compensation for private contractors providing personnel services to public entities.
